About Us

Our History: Summary

VyStar Credit Union was originally founded in 1952 as Jax Navy Federal Credit Union to serve civil service, military employees and their families at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. After the first year of operation, we counted 1,100 members and just over $28,000 in assets. We are proud of our beginnings and extend that pride today as we have grown to become one of the largest credit unions in the nation, serving over 500,000 members nationwide.  See a timeline of our growth and milestones

"Our credit union was founded at a time when it was difficult for members of the military to borrow money,” said Michael Cascone, the first member of VyStar Credit Union and one of the individuals who helped establish it. “Back in the 1950s, credit was not easy to come by for working men and women. Credit lines were all but impossible to get. And it was very hard to finance an automobile through a bank. What we wanted was a place where blue collar workers could open an account and a place that would provide credit to individuals who had few options."

VyStar’s nine-person volunteer  Board of Directors provides strategic direction and oversees the management of the credit union for its members. Our volunteer Audit Committee adds balance to the credit union’s activities as it actively oversees our special activities and internal audits. Additionally, our more than 1000 employees keep VyStar running smoothly for our members each and every day.

Today, our driving philosophy continues to be offering highly competitive pricing, giving members high-yielding savings products, low loan rates and low-or no-fee financial services. This commitment makes finding affordable, quality financial products and services a reality for our members.
